For an extension to the homework, some parents have asked the third grade teachers to provide more challenging homework. Last week, Ah Lo did mostly computer games on Language Arts. This week, we are trying out various math games. Here’s one with a deck of cards. The goal is to use the numbers of five cards to make up equations that equal the number on a sixth card (with jack, queen and kings as 10’s and A’s can be 1 or 11). Player gets to keep the cards used. At the end, the player with most cards wins! So far, he’s only playing with addition and subtraction, but also using positive and negative numbers. I’m assuming this will get more complicated (i.e. timer, or using multiplication/division)
