Today is the Lantern Festival or Yuanxiao Jie ( 元宵節), a traditional Chinese festival, which is on the 15th of the first month of the Chinese New Year. Tang Yuan (湯圓) is the sticky dessert we eat during this holiday. You’ve probably seen it in my older posts. Traditionally, the tang yuan is round, symbolizing family unity, completeness and happiness. You can add stuffing in it, or not. I like to play a bit and add more shapes! This year, I’ve made matcha glutinous rice balls with red bean paste, the purple yam glutinous rice balls and the others are without any filling.

Cooking it is pretty easy. Just put in with boiling water. Once it floats, it’s considered done.

There are different ways to consume this. Here I’ve added to the sweet red bean soup.

Or you can choose to eat it with sweet ginger soup.
