Call me crazy, but I’m registering for Dai Bee to take the SAT this winter. It is not uncommon for 7th graders take SAT. This was recommended by his 3rd grade teacher a couple of years ago. I didn’t pay too much attention to it at the time. Recently, this topic popped up again, so I contemplated and decided to go forward. First I asked Dai Bee if he’d be willing to give it a try. He shrugged and said, ‘yes, why not?’ We’ll see.
Oh, wow! I’ll have to think about that for my tween when she hits junior high. Do you feel your son is already ready for it? Or is it more about exposure?
@kepanie – I think he’s is ready for it. He probably won’t like the essay part, but english/math part, he’s fine with it. He’s taken the School and College Ability Test (SCAT) two years ago and did quite well. The SCAT is designed to be above grade level, but seems to did it without any complaints.
Please double check if the score of this SAT will be used for his future college admissions. Way back in the day, if you take the SAT a couple of times, most colleges will average the 2 scores out. Some will take the higher score. Not that Dai Bee won’t get a good score, but taking it more than once may bring his average “down” if he is not 100% proficient for all the components. Things may have changed but it’s best to just check.
No, it doesn’t count. College board purges the test scores at the end of the testing year for 8th graders or below. I’m only doing this so I can help Dai Bee with his advancement, given that he do well.
